Abstract

Abstract Introduction: One of the relatively common accidents in work place environments is Slips, Trips and Falls (STF) that can cause back injuries, sprains & strains, bruises, contusions, fractures, tears and even death. Aim of this study was slip risk assessment in different sections of a hospital in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was done using Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Slip Assessment Tool (SAT). Prevalence of slip accidents were investigated using a questionnaire among 178 of hospital staffs. Data analysis was done using SPSS-20 software. Roughness coefficient was measured using Roughness Meter TQC-SP1560. Results: Slip risk level in 5 sections including outside stairs, surgery, ICU and emergency admission was significant. The maximum and minimum slip risk was related to stairs and physiotherapy section respectively. The prevalence of slips incidents were reported 47.2 percent by healthcare workers. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the surface contaminant as well as method and frequency of surface cleaning are the most important effective factors on slip risk in the studied hospital.

Abstract

Background: Power and pinch hand grip strengths are major clinical and ergonomic parameters contributing to the hand muscle power. The data on hand grip strength measurements can have many benefits, including application in the design of hand tools. The present study was conducted to measure power hand grip strength among male and female students aged 19 to 36 using a Jamar Dynamometer and to compare their measurement data with the data obtained from other groups of the population.

Materials and Methods: The present cross sectional study was conducted on 234 male and female students aged 19-36 in Urmia University of Medical Sciences. Hand grip strength was measured using Jamar hand dynamometer and according to the Southampton protocol for adult grip strength measurement.

Results: The mean (±standard deviation of) hand grip strength calculated was 44.39 (±9.71) in the male students 20.48 (±5.86) in the female students. A high correlation was observed between the power hand grip strength in the left and right hands (r=0.94 and P<0.001) and a significant difference then between the power hand grip strength in the dominant and non-dominant hands. 

Conclusion: The findings of the present study and similar studies about power hand grip strength in the Iranian population can be used by ergonomists and manufacturers to improve the design of hand tools and the performance of tasks requiring hand muscle power.

Abstract

Introduction: Listening to music during physical activity reduces the perceived stress on body. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of music genre and sound pressure level on calorie consumption and physical performance of students during treadmill tests.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 27 students were randomly selected. A demographic questionnaire, Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion Scale (RPE 6-20), and the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) were used for data collection. During flat and sloped treadmill running (five minutes at 6 km/hour), two pieces of music with fast and slow tempo (200 and 70 beat per minute) were also played at two sound pressure levels (60 and 80 dB). During the exercise, the students’ heart rate and calorie consumption were measured by a calorimeter (Beurer PM100). At each stage, the physical performance of the participants was estimated using the relevant equation.

Results: The students had the lowest physical performance (61.48) when no music was played and the highest physical performance (92.48) with slow, loud music. The mean heart rate, calorie consumption, and perceived exertion were maximized without music and minimized when slow, loud music was played.

Conclusion: Playing soft music at high sound pressure levels can promote physical performance during exercise by decreasing heart rate, calorie consumption, and perceived exertion.

Abstract

Introduction: the quality of life of nurses and nurse aides is under the influence of various factors including the occupational ones, which affect the quality of their services. The purpose of this research was to investigate the occupational and demographic factors effective on the quality of life of nurses and nurse aides working in teaching hospitals affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences.

Methods: the present research was a cross-sectional one conducted in 2014 on 620 nurses and nurse aides. Simple random sampling method was utilized. The data were collected via the World Health Organization Quality of Life short form (questionnaire). Shift working, having a second job, marital status, length of marriage and having a shift working spouse were the independent variables of this study. Data were analyzed in SPSS 18 software using analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearsons correlation coefficient, independent t and linear regression statistical tests.

Results: the average age, length of marriage and work experience in hospital were 32.81 ± 7.84, 10.61 ± 7.30 and 10.29 ± 7.68, respectively. The number of children, having a second job, satisfaction from the hours spent with family, and belief in the effect of night work on family life were factors effective on quality of life (P > 0.05). The highest relationship of quality of life was with environmental health (r = 0.87, P = 0.001) and the lowest was with social health (r = 0.75, P = 0.002).

Conclusions: Avoiding to have a second job, scientific planning of shift work schedules and trainings relevant to life skills in shift workers would help improve the quality of life of nurses and nurse aides.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Faculty Members of the university have a fundamental role in education and its quality. Working conditions of the faculty members have made them face severe musculoskeletal disorders. The spread of the COVID-19 virus, the closure of universities and the virtual education have made working conditions of the faculty members more difficult than before. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the virus on the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of the faculty members of the university and the extraction of variables affecting the disorders.
Methods: This descriptive-survey study was conducted in 2020 on 220 faculty members of Yazd University who were selected by the simple random sampling method. Data were collected using the standardized Nordic questionnaire in two stages before and after the spread of the virus and were analyzed in SPSS 25 by paired sample t-test, independent t-test, and analysis of variance.
Results: Musculoskeletal disorders after the spread of the virus in most organs have increased significantly, so that frequency percentage in the neck for the three campuses has increased from 36%, 40%, and 31% to 55%, 52%, and 44 %. There is a significant relationship between gender, work experience, and teaching method with the prevalence of disorders. Most disorders were in the back, neck, and knees.
Conclusion: A small percentage of faculty members perform sports activities and daily exercises that by planning on them can reduce the disorders. The university can also prevent the centralization of education at a specific time by dividing the virtual education during the day and week and reduce the disorders.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Psychosocial factors are among the factors affecting employee productivity. Since few studies have been done in this field, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between psychosocial factors regarding productivity.
Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2020 among 105 employees of a food distribution company in Ahvaz. Data collection tools included demographic information questionnaire, Copenhagen Psychosocial Factors Questionnaire (COPSOQ) and Goldsmith Hershey Productivity Questionnaire. Independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to investigate the relationship between variables.

Results: The results showed that there was no significant relationship between any of the demographic variables with the score of psychosocial factors and productivity (P> 0.05). Psychosocial factor 2 has a negative and significant relationship with the average score of productivity, ability, role clarity, organizational support, motivation, feedback and credibility. And psychosocial factor 4 has a negative and significant relationship with motivation. The mean score of psychosocial factors, factor 1 and 3 showed a positive and significant relationship with the mean score of productivity, ability, role clarity, organizational support, motivation, feedback and credibility.
Conclusion: Considering the role of psychosocial factors on employee' productivity, it is necessary to consider organizational interventions in order to control effective psychosocial factors. More attention to psychosocial factors in the workplace can play an effective role in the efficiency and productivity of employees and the organization.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Increasing the retention of health care workers in the context of Covid-19 expansion is one of the most important challenges for the health care systems. To design a strategy to maintain health care workers, it is necessary to identify the factors influencing willingness to work or leave the job among health care workers. This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the willingness to work or leave the job among health care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Methods: To identify relevant publications, the online Databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and ProQuest were searched on October 20, 2020. Based on the inclusion criteria, only studies that investigated the factors influencing willingness to work or motivation to leave the job among health care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic were included.
Results: Of the 610 studies found through searching, after deleting similar and unrelated studies, a number of 10 cross-sectional articles with a sample size of 15834 subjects were selected. Obtained findings indicated that the willingness to work among health care workers ranged from 61% to 98.7% and averaged 83.5%. The results of studies showed that job factors such as work experience, previous work experience in emergency time or Covid-19, workload, cooperation between employees, the relationship between employees and managers, access to personal protective equipment, and welfare facilities were significantly proportional to the willingness of health care workers to work.
Conclusion: The results of this study showed to design a strategy to maintain the health care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, a broad range of occupational and psychological variables should be considered. Due to the limited number and quality of studies and the extent of influential variables, more studies are needed in this field.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: With the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, staff's job satisfaction and mental health potentially threatened especially in health care centers. The study aimed to investigate the effect of the COVID-19 virus on job satisfaction and mental health of staff health care centers of Yazd city in 2020.
Methods: The study is a descriptive-survey study and was conducted by selecting 265 stratified random samples among the staff of health care centers in Yazd city. Research tools include the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire, and the Corona Disease Anxiety Scale. Data analysis was performed by ANOVA, Chi-square independence, and Pearson correlation tests.
Results: The results showed that staff's job satisfaction and mental health were moderate and serious respectively, and COVID-19 anxiety has a significant correlation with staff's job satisfaction (r = -0.611, P = 0.009) and mental health (r = -0.826, P = 0.001). Age, gender, and marriage had a significant impact on job satisfaction, mental health, and COVID-19 anxiety (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: It is suggested that healthcare providers increase their financial and moral support to healthcare staff during conditions like the COVID-19 outbreak. Also, introducing rotational staff and hiring new staff is a considerate action that can be taken by the relevant managers to improve the staff's job satisfaction and mental health.

Abstract

Objectives: COVID-19 virus pandemic and quarantine implementation have different effects on students' psychological aspects and musculoskeletal disorders. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 virus on musculoskeletal disorders and the mental health of Meybod University students.
Methods: For this purpose, a random sample of 350 students of Meybod University was selected in 2021. Data were collected based on three questionnaires Nordic Musculoskeletal Disorders, Mental Health, and Corona Disease Anxiety Scale. The Logistic regression and Chi-square test.
Results: The results showed that the anxiety caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has a significant effect on students' mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has also caused musculoskeletal disorders in most parts of the student body. The grade, exercise, daily sports, and the number of people infected with the virus are the variables that significantly affect organ disorders and the mental health of students in this condition.
Conclusion: Due to the importance of students' physical and mental health, it is necessary to plan students' classrooms properly. Also, with virus outbreaks and the need to comply with restrictions, planning for sports and simple stretching exercises can reduce disorders and increase students' vitality.
