Abstract

Introduction: Physical activity has been identified as a potential intervention to improve body composition in women with breast cancer. This research sought to investigate the effects of an eight-week aerobic training program on some anthropometric indices and cardiorespiratory fitness of middle-aged women with breast cancer.

Material and Methods: A total of 15 women with breast cancer (age: 40-60 years) were selected through convenience sampling. They attended an eight-week aerobic exercise program consisting of three 40-60-minute sessions per week. Exercise intensity was maintained at 30%-60% the subjects’ heart rate reserve (HRR). The participants’ weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist to hip ratio, waist to height ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (BFP), and maximum oxygen consumption were measured at baseline and after eight weeks of exercise. Data were analyzed by paired samples t-tests at a significance level of 0.05.

Results: Significant reductions in the patients’ weight (P = 0.001), BMI (P = 0.001), WC (P = 0.006), HC (P = 0.001), WHR (P = 0.006), and PBF (P = 0.001) were observed after eight weeks of aerobic training. Moreover, exercise significantly increased the subjects’ maximum oxygen consumption (P = 0.008). However, changes in the participants’ waist to hip ratio were not significant (P = 0.235).

Conclusion: According to the obtained results, an eight-week aerobic training program could significantly improve some anthropometric indices and cardiorespiratory fitness in women with breast cancer.

Abstract

Introduction: Nominal noise reduction rate of the earmuff manufacturers can be different compared with the actual attenuation rate. The present study aimed to determine the actual noise reduction rate of common hearing protection devices using microphone in real ear method.

Materials and Methods: In this study, five brands of common earmuffs used in Iranian industries were investigated on 30 subjects under laboratory conditions. Noise reduction rates of earmuffs were measured based on the ISO 11904 standard, microphone in real ear method, using noise dosimeter (SVANTEK, SV 102 model) equipped with a microphone SV 25 model. The earmuffs comfort was also assessed by the developed questionnaire.

Results: The results showed that the real noise reduction rates of the earmuffs were between 49% to 86% of nominal reduction rates. Moreover, the actual insertion losses were much negligible at low noise frequencies. The performances of earmuffs based on manufacturers were not statistically different (Pv> 0.05). Based on subjects’ comfort scores, comfort of ear muffs were within the acceptable range. The noise reduction rates of the different earmuffs of each model were not statistically different as well (Pv > 0.05).

Conclusions: Irregular use of earmuff can reduce the real attenuation of earmuff to lower than the minimum rate acquired in this study. Proper training and adequate supervision on proper use of earmuff can affect earmuff fitting along with increasing of real noise attenuation.

Abstract

Introduction: Driving is a complex task engaging high level of cognitive and motor processes. Adding to this complexity, engagement in cognitive secondary tasks such as talking with other passengers, speaking on the cell phone or listening to radio may effect driving performance. In addition, age-related cognitive limitations may adversely challenge driving performance. As the number of elderly drivers is rising, it is important to pay more attention to this matter.

Methods: The effects of cognitive secondary tasks on driving performance were explored through two on-road experiments (with and without listening to a recorded dialogue). In this study thirty-two individuals (male, M = 72.6, SD = 5.43) voluntarily took part in the experiments. The mean driving speed, duration of driving in unsafe-zones, numbers of overtaking, and deviation of lateral lane position were recorded, adopting a radar system and video camera. After determination of the normality of data, paired t test and correlation analysis were conducted.

Results: Mean driving speed (P < 0.05), duration of driving in an unsafe zone (P < 0.05), and numbers of overtaking (P < 0.001) showed considerable reduction of participantsengagement in listening to the recorded dialogue. In contrast, mean deviation of lateral lane position increased.

Conclusions: The findings revealed that driving performance of elderly drivers was effected when listening to a recorded dialogue. However, in order to increase driving safety, they adopted some compensating strategies.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: In the last decade, the smartphones have become one of the most popular technologies around the world. Due to the multi-functional use of smartphones, the technology users spend long hours using it.
Methods: This was a semi-experimental and experimental study. In the first section, 98 students entered the semi-experimental part and completed demographic and body map questionnaires before starting the study. They were asked to perform their duties with their phone for 20 minutes and then complete the body map questionnaire again. In the second part of this study, 12 women from the first group participated in the experimental study to assess the neck flexion using the motion capture. SPSS 24 was used for statistical analysis.
Results: Searching the Internet and sending texts were the most common tasks among the participants in this study. The use of cell phone caused an increase in pain and discomfort in the neck, shoulder, thumb, thenar. The results of the study showed that there is a significant association between sitting posture and high level of neck forward flexion. Furthermore, neck flexion increased during typing while both hands holding the handset.
Conclusion: Smartphone users have had repetitive motions in fixed postures for a long time, and these factors are thought to increase the likelihood of musculoskeletal disorders.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: In recent years, due to the rapid growth of metropolitan cities and the shortage of urban public transport means, including urban bus transportation, many people are forced to travel in a standing position when using these vehicles. This situation may cause pain and discomfort and non-collision injuries for passengers. The purpose of this study was ergonomic assessment of the sit-standing seat in passengers standing on urban buses.
Methods: To do this study, 8 young people with a mean age of 25.25±2.12 years were enrolled. For evaluation and assessing the effect of sit-standing seat two methods of surface Electromyography (sEMG) and Borg scale scores were applied in Fall 2018. The data was analyzed using SPSS 24.
Results: In all body parts, except for the hip, the mean scoring of Borg’s scale for perceived discomfort in sit-standing position was less than standing position. Also, the amount of contractile activity of the leg muscles in sit-standing position was significantly lower than the standing position (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Considering the results obtained from the Borg scale scores and the contraction activity of the leg muscles as a result of the use of the mentioned seat, which led to a reduction in the level of discomfort and the leg muscles contraction, it is recommended to apply the sit-stand seat instead of being in a standing position.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Nurses are the main staff of the hospital. The large number of clients, the high volume of work and the shortage of staff increase the mental workload of nurses. On the other hand, reducing the control of the work process leads to mental stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of job control and explaining the relationship between job satisfaction and mental workload in nurses.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 188 nurses of educational hospitals in Shushtar and Ardabil cities, Iran, in 2019. Research tools included demographic information questionnaire, NASA-TLX questionnaire, Job description index (JDI) questionnaire, and job control questionnaire. For Data analysis the correlation coefficient and regression analysis with SPSS-18 and AMOS-18 software were used.
Results: Based on the results, the final model had good fitness (GFI=0.859, CFI=0.921, RMSEA=0.067). The results also showed that there is a significant relationship between mental workload and job satisfaction (P<0.001, r=-0.33) and this relationship has increased with the presence of job control (P<0.001, r=-0.42).
Conclusion: High levels of job control are associated with increased job satisfaction and reduced workload. As a result, in order to reduce the mental workload and increase job satisfaction, job control of nurses can be increased to improve working conditions.

Abstract

Objectives: The comfort questionnaire for hand tools (CQH) is a subjective measure for exploring the starting points for improving hand tool design. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Farsi version of the CQH.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, which was conducted among 163 university students, the 17-question CQH was translated into Farsi with a translation back-translation procedure. Content validity was assessed by a panel of 10 experts. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was applied for determining construct validity. Cronbach’s alpha and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) were used for assessing internal consistency and test-retest reliability, respectively. Ceiling and floor effects were also estimated for evaluating the feasibility of the measure.
Results: The CQH showed good content validity. Content validity index (CVI) ranged from 0.80 to 1.00 and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) ranged 0.62-1.00. EFA led to extraction of two factors from the data. The first one was mostly related to functionality and physical interaction and the second one, was generally about adverse body effects. The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.74 and test-retest reliability was 0.74 (95% CI = 0.58 to 0.86) which both were satisfactory. There were no (0%) ceiling and floor effects.
Conclusion: The Farsi version of CQH is an acceptable and useful instrument for evaluating hand tools comfort.

Abstract

Objectives: Signs and symbols are used to inform how different tools work. Considering that washing machines are a widely used device and tool in today's life, the present study was conducted to determine the level of comprehension of “Saraye-Irani” visitors regarding the symbols placed on Iranian washing machines.
Methods: The number of 300 people who referred to "Seraye-Irani" located in Qom city participated in this study. A researcher-made checklist based on the ISO 9186-1 2007 standard was used to collect the required data. After the checklist was approved by the experts, it was distributed among the participants and they were asked to write down the meaning of each symbol in front of it. The gathered data were analyzed in SPSS version 22 software using the Chi-square and Fisher's tests.
Results: The results showed that the symbol of "wrinkle-free washing" with a comprehension rate of 70% was the only symbol that the participants had a good comprehension of. However, the participants' comprehension of the other 13 symbols in question was below the standard level. The understanding of symbols of "extra rinse" (P=0.016), "cold water wash" (P=0.037), "child lock" (P=0.001), and "full power wash" (P=0.044) decreased with increasing age. Moreover, individuals with higher education levels had a better understanding of symbols (P=0.001).
Conclusion: Among the 14 symbols measured in the present study, only one symbol had an acceptable level of comprehension. Therefore, according to the widespread use of washing machines, to optimize the use of this tool, it seems necessary to design and implement the necessary training to familiarize and understand these symbols.

Abstract

Objectives: Road accidents and related damages and casualties are among the most important concerns of today's societies. Mental workload is one of the main human factors that can cause other factors, such as stress and anger. The present study was conducted to investigate the mental workload and its effect on changing the components of drivers' moods.
Methods: A total of 88 tour taxi drivers from Qazvin City participated in this study to examine the desired components. The driving Activity Load Index was used to evaluate mental load and the Profile of Mood States questionnaire to measure drivers' mood components. Based on the designed scenario of driving on high-traffic roads, the desired variables were evaluated. To check the relationship between these variables, paired t-tests and Pearson correlation analysis were used in SPSS version 24 software.
Results: The mean scores of the drivers' work history and age were obtained at 46.60±10.12 and 13.47±9.39 years, respectively. The obtained findings showed that driving on high-traffic roads significantly increased the average mental workload of drivers (P<0.001). Growth in the drivers' mental workload led to a decrease in some mood components that had a positive effect, such as happiness (r=-0.143, P=0.157) and vitality (r=-0.646, P=0.050), while it resulted in a rise in the mood component of depression (r=0.020, P= 0.248).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, it can be concluded that as driving continues, drivers experience a rise in mental workload. However, there was no correlation regarding the effect of this component on the mood components.

Abstract

Objectives: User engagement with digital technologies refers to the sense of belonging and individual satisfaction. Visual aesthetics, characterized by simplicity and diversity, plays a crucial role in the design of products and online sales strategies. This study investigates the relationship between visual aesthetics and user engagement with in a selected social network.
Methods: This correlational descriptive-analytical study examines the attractiveness of two pages with similar educational content but differing visual aesthetics criteria on one of the social networks. The first page (Researcher-made page) exhibits higher standards of attractiveness compared to the second page (Basic page). Data were collected through online questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS software.
Results: The study involved 116 participants, of whom 91 (78.4%) were female, with an average age of 26.8 ± 2.54 years. The majority of participants held a bachelor's degree (57.8%). The average visual aesthetics scores for the content pages (Researcher-made page) and (Basic page) were 95/92 and 84/9, respectively, indicating that Researcher-made page had greater visual appeal. Furthermore, the user engagement scores for Researcher-made page and Basic page were 107/9 and 100/02, respectively. A significant positive correlation was found between visual appeal and user engagement on both pages (P<0.001), while no significant relationship was observed between gender or education level and these metrics (P>0.05).
Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the visual aesthetics of virtual content pages has a significant impact on user engagement. These findings underscore the importance of adhering to attractiveness criteria in content design, which can be beneficial for content creators, managers, and business owners.
