Abstract

Background Given the breadth and diversity of construction activities and their hazards, it is at the top of accident cause lists. According to the supervisor's role in safety and prevention of accidents at construction sites, this study was conducted to study the risk perception, safety attitude and safety performance in the supervisors of construction sites in Shiraz city. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 200 supervisors who agreed to participate in the study. The study was by conducted using a structured questionnaire consist of questions regarding general information, risk perception, safety attitude and safety performance. The questionnaire was completed through self-statement. Results All studied supervisors had medium and high risk perception (35.5 and 64.5% respectively), medium and high safety attitude (78.6 and 21.4% respectively), medium and high safety performance (41.4 and 58.6% respectively). Among studied variables, size of construction site, had positive and significant effect on safety performance of supervisors. Conclusions The result of this study showed that there is a significant relationship between risk perception and safety attitude with safety performance among supervisors in construction sites. Somehow, by increasing safety attitude in supervisors, their safety performance were increased too.

Abstract

Abstract Introduction: One of the relatively common accidents in work place environments is Slips, Trips and Falls (STF) that can cause back injuries, sprains & strains, bruises, contusions, fractures, tears and even death. Aim of this study was slip risk assessment in different sections of a hospital in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was done using Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Slip Assessment Tool (SAT). Prevalence of slip accidents were investigated using a questionnaire among 178 of hospital staffs. Data analysis was done using SPSS-20 software. Roughness coefficient was measured using Roughness Meter TQC-SP1560. Results: Slip risk level in 5 sections including outside stairs, surgery, ICU and emergency admission was significant. The maximum and minimum slip risk was related to stairs and physiotherapy section respectively. The prevalence of slips incidents were reported 47.2 percent by healthcare workers. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the surface contaminant as well as method and frequency of surface cleaning are the most important effective factors on slip risk in the studied hospital.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The recognition of a system failure causes and their related factors are considered as the most important factor in preventing accident occurrence in different organizations including industries. Human error is a known important factor in unpredictable events of which cognitive factors are the most influential ones. The purpose of this study was to introduce a new model for individual cognitive factors influencing human error as well as determining the interactions between the factors and their intensity using DEMATEL approach.
Methods: First a qualitative study was performed in order to identify and elicit the individual cognitive factors influencing human error among the workers of different industries. To ensure the adequacy and comprehensiveness of the elicited factors, then, the experts’ opinion was applied. DEMATEL method was used for understanding the interactions among the individual cognitive factors influencing human error. Finally, using these relationships, a new model of the study was proposed.
Results: Calculating D-R and D+R relating to the factors in terms of being cause or effect factor, D-R was -1.213 for C5 as the highest negative value, and D+R was 2.294 for the same factor (C5). Also, threshold level was calculated as 0.087 in the current study
Conclusion: In this study, the factors of failure in problem solving and decision making (C5) and difficulty in predicting possible hazards in the workplace are effects and the other factors were the cause factors. The factor of C5 was the highest interactive factor.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Human errors in dialysis care can cause injury and death. One of the basic steps to increase reliability in this critical process is to analyze the error and identify the weaknesses of doing this process.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study. The SPAR-H method was used to identify and evaluate the probability of human error in the dialysis process. The hospital had six dialysis department and 16 dialysis machines with two nurses in each department. Data collection was done by observing the dialysis process, interview with nurses, reviewing the documents, methods of work and work instructions.
Results: The present study showed that the probability of human error in the duties of a dialysis nurse is in the range of 0.02-0.44 (except for devices related to disorder), which is related to sub-duty preparing patient as lowest rate and sub-duty of the pump set-off as highest error rate.
Conclusion: To reduce and control the human error in nursing duties in the dialysis department, control measures should be done such as increasing the number of personnel, changing the time shift of nurses, and training, preparing and revising the instructions.

Abstract

Introduction: Craniofacial anthropometry and anthropometric ratios are used in different sciences such as dentistry, medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, growth studies, plastic surgery, bioengineering and production of personal protective equipment. The purpose of this study is to introduce Digimizer software to measure facial dimensions and compare manual dimensional measurement and photoanthropometry with this software.
Methods: In This descriptive-analytical study 12 female students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences participated. Measurement of face dimensions of samples was done manually and by photographic methods and data analysis was performed with SPSS software version 19 and descriptive-analytical tests.
Results: From the ten dimensions of the measured dimensions, a significant difference was observed in the three dimensions of the Subnasal-Nasal Root Length (SNRL), Menton-Nasal Root Length (MNRL) (Face Length) and Bitragion-Menton Arc (TRMA) dimensions,(P <0.05 ). No significant differences were observed in other dimensions. The ICC (Intra Class Correlation) coefficient for both methods was obtained in the range of 0.56-0.94.
Conclusion: This study showed that the use of Digimizer software can replace the use of manual method in measuring the dimensions of the face and in the preparation of anthropometric database of the face in less time is preferable to the manual method.

Abstract

Objectives: Planning and scientific policy making is required for the investigation of scientific productions. Scientific productions are published through universities and research centers in the form of articles and research journals. Scientometric approaches are a tool to assess the performance of journals in different fields. The aim of the present study was to investigate the activity of ergonomics journal.
Methods: The current research was a practical objective with the descriptive data collection method, which was conducted with a scientometric approach. The research population consists of all the articles published in ergonomics journal during the years 1392 to 1401. Publish or Perish, Vosviewer and Excel software were used to collect and analyze data.
Results: A total of 296 articles from 724 authors have been published in Ergonomics journal during a 10-year period. The most articles published belonged to Hamadan, Shiraz, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti universities of medical sciences. The most effective authors in this journal were Rashid Heydari Moghadam (with 21 articles), Majid Motamedzadeh (with 20 articles), and Alireza Chubineh (with 15 articles). The most frequently used keywords were skeletal and muscular disorders with a frequency of 39, ergonomics 37 and anthropometrics 15.
Conclusion: According to the results, the number of citations of articles in this journal was at a low level. Therefore, it is suggested to increase the amount of international participation in order to index the journal in international citation databases and increase the citation rate of articles and the visibility of the journal.

Abstract

Objectives: A significant indicators of progress and development is the publication of books within any scientific domain. Ergonomics, a critical field associated with human and occupational health, contributes to enhancing productivity and the health level of employees. The present study aims to investigate the state of production and publication of ergonomics books in Iran.
Methods: The current study employed a descriptive approach and content analysis with a bibliometric perspective. The research population encompaased all ergonomics books registered on the National Library website. To access relevant books, searches were conducted without temporal limitations using keywords such as ergonomics, human factors engineering, and other related terms. The collected data were then entered into a pre-designed form in Excel software and, in the final stage, were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: In total, 313 book titles in the field of ergonomics have been published between the years 1989 to 2023, indicating an increasing trend in the publication of books in this area. The highest frequency was for authored books, accounting for 78.27 percent of the publications. Mohammad Amin Mououdi, Majid Motamedzadeh, and Alireza Choobineh were the most active authors in this field. The subject areas of ergonomics principles and application, occupational ergonomics, and human factors engineering had the highest frequency. Fanavaran publications held the highest rank among all publishers. In total, 38 book titles reached multiple editions.
Conclusion: The results of the current study signify an upward trend in book publication within the field of ergonomics in Iran. However, there is a need for more attention from authors in some specializations of this science, including occupational biomechanics, urban ergonomics, ergonomics in domestic settings, and ergonomics for children. Additionally, there is a notable lack of focus on the publication of electronic books in this scientific field. Therefore, to give more consideration to the advantages of electronic books and consider their publication.
